Spot Light on Team Member: DWAYNE CORREIA

DWAYNE CORREIA

I graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute in October of 2009 with a Certificate in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Upon my graduation, I joined the Ultimate Sports Massage Team (USMT), and it has been great thus far.

As a member of USMT, I have built up my resume volunteering my time working at various local and national sports events, such as the Cox Providence Rhode Races, New England Rugby Football Union Tournament, Revolution3 Triathlon Race Series, Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island, New Balance Ocean State XC Invitational, and the Marine Corps Marathon. All of these different events, and more, have given me amazing experiences, and I have worked on professional athletes, Olympians, paralympians, paramilitary, collegiate and High School athletes.

I have been an athlete all my life, as captain of my High School baseball team and Varsity star of the soccer team as well. I understand what it takes to be at the top of your game. Proper body maintenance and pain relief is essential to reaching that highest level of athletic performance. I take pride in helping you achieve your physical goals. Proper body maintenance is key to reaching that highest level of athletic performance.

Feel free to contact me at any time with questions or to schedule an appointment.

Spot Light on Team Member: KRISTEN PARADISE

KRISTEN PARADISE
KRISTEN IS THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE ULTIMATE SPORTS MASSAGE TEAM.
KRISTEN IS A GRADUATE OF THE LINCOLN TECHNICAL INSTITUTE, MASSAGE THERAPY PROGRAM. UPON GRADUATION IN MAY 2010 KRISTEN HIT THE GROUND RUNNING… & I DO MEAN RUNNING!

KRISTEN WAS ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN A FEW SPORTING EVENTS WHILE IN SCHOOL. THIS IS WHERE SHE FOUND HER TRUE CALLING IN THE MASSAGE FIELD.

IN 2010 KRISTEN PARTICIPATED IN ALL OF THE USMT SPORTING EVENTS FOR THE YEAR INCLUDING HER 1ST EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH OUR NATIONS WOUNDED WARRIORS AT THE MARINE CORPS MARATHON LOCATED IN WASHINGTON DC. THE USMT WAS PARTNERED WITH TEAM SEMPER FI. THIS WAS A LIFE ALTERING EXPERIENCE FOR KRISTEN. THIS WAS KRISTEN’S FIRST TRIP AND 6TH OVERALL FOR THE ULTIMATE SPORTS MASSAGE TEAM.

I STARTED ASKING ABOUT WHAT TO EXPECT AND HOW TO PREPARE MYSELF FOR THE 2010 MARINE CORPS MARATHON. BEING THAT I ONLY HAD ABLE BODIED ATHLETES ON MY TABLE IN THE PAST. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD PREPARE ME. IT WAS A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND THERE WERE NO WORDS THAT WOULD DO IT JUSTICE. THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH! I HAD DONE SEVERAL LARGE SCALE EVENTS FROM 11/09 TO 10/10 LEADING UP THE MARINE CORPS MARATHON 10/31/10. SO I THOUGHT I WAS “GOOD TO GO”. WELL THE SIGHT ALONE HAD ME IN TEARS IN THE FIRST 90 MINUTES WHEN THE 10K HAND CYCLISTS STARTED ROLLING IN. AND THEN AGAIN WHEN MY FIRST PARA-ATHLETE WAS ON MY TABLE. WHAT I FELT UNDER MY HANDS FLOORED ME!! EVERYTHING I HAD LEARNED UP TO THAT POINT LEFT MY BRAIN MOMENTARILY. BECAUSE OF WHAT I WAS FEELING UNDER MY HANDS SO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM ANYTHING I ENCOUNTERED THUS FAR. IT WAS BECAUSE OF MY EDUCATION AND HANDS ON EXPERIENCE WITH THE USMT. I WAS ABLE TO DIG DEEP INTO MY TOOL BOX AND USE SEVERAL DIFFERENT MODALITIES OF MASSAGE SUCH AS.
• MYO-FASCIAL RELEASE
• TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
• CROSS FIBER FRICTION
• STRETCHING
• COMPRESSIONS
I WAS ABLE TO WORK WITH THIS AMAZING GROUP OF ATHLETES JUST AS I WOULD ABLE BODIED ONES. AND GIVE THEM THE PERFORMANCE BASED OUTCOMES THEY WERE LOOKING FOR. BUT AGAIN I WAS IN AWE OF WHAT A HUMBLING EXPERIENCE IT WAS. THEIR STORIES WERE LIKE NONE I HAD EVER HEARD. TO LEARN WHO THEY WERE AND WHERE THEY CAME FROM, HOW THEY SUSTAINED THEIR INJURIES, THEIR RECOVERY AND RE-HABILITATION PROCESS, WHAT THEY HAD ACHIEVED AS AN ATHLETE , AND THEIR GOALS AS AN ATHLETE. TRULY INSPIRING! SOME WERE ON THEIR WAY BACK FROM OR HEADED TO TRAININGS TO QUALIFY FOR THE 2012 PARALYMPIC SUMMER GAMES OR THE 2014 PARALYMPIC WINTER GAMES. CAN YOU IMAGINE?
SO AS YOU CAN SEE IT WAS JUST THE PINNACLE EXPERIENCE OF MY FIRST FULL SEASON WITH THE USMT. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MANY MORE MARINE CORPS MARATHONS AND GOING FORWARD IN 2011 WITH THE USMT.

KRISTEN HAS GAINED INVALUABLE KNOWLEDGE THRU HER HARD WORK & DEDICATION TO PROVIDING THAT SPECIAL BRAND OF SPORTS MASSAGE. SHE IS EAGER TO CONTINUALLY LEARN MORE TO BETTER SERVE THE ATHLETES AND CLIENTS THAT SHE HAS THE ABILITY TO SUCCESSFULLY TREAT AND GET ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY .

PLEASE CONTACT KRISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SCHEDULING A MASSAGE SESSION WITH HER.

SPORTS MASSAGE FOR THE ATHLETE!

Sports Massage for the Athlete!

Many Sports & fitness enthusiasts rely on regular massage as an important part of their health maintenance routine. This is because an area of chronic tension can impair performance & even lead to injury when stressed.

Assisted stretching, kneading, pre & post event along with various massage techniques can loosen areas of chronic tension before they become an issue for you!

MASSAGE THERAPISTS specializing in sports massage are trained to recognize & work with the unique demands that different sport activities place on the body, as well as to know when & when not to massage.

Sports massage is also extremely effective for individuals that use their bodies in a deliberate & demanding way…. WE like to refer to them as our “industrial athletes” ~~ in translation… that means YOU!!!

SPORTS, FITNESS & MASSAGE

There is a growing awareness that a complete workout routine includes not only the exercise itself, BUT also caring for the “wear & tear” along with minor injuries that naturally occur with strenuous movement.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM REGULAR MASSAGE? ….

Anyone who routinely stretches their physical limits through movement & athletic activities such as: running, swimming, hiking, cycling, tennis, baseball, football, crossfit .. and so on…. including your hobbies & job!

HOW MASSAGE HELPS?.... (Well here it is, in a nut shell)

RECOVERY ~~ Facilitates the rebuilding phase of conditioning. Benefits include
(but not limited to) the following:

improves blood & lymph
muscle relaxation & elongation
removal of cellular waist products from muscle tissue
deactivation of trigger points
increase flexibility & range of motion
decrease potential for injury

Sports Massage therapists are the “first line of defense” in recognizing potential muscular injuries.

Contact any one of the qualified and knowledgeable therapists here at USMT… we are the experts… we are ready & able to get you back out on the playing field!

Always!
